The idea for The Funk Collective first popped into my head around 25 years ago. I was surrounded by so many amazing funk musicians and thought that we should all collaborate and launch an album between us. Alas as it often does, life got in the way and the project never got off the ground. Three years ago I decided that I had to follow my dream of getting this project running and picked up the domains, got a logo and started searching for the right team.
It’s always difficult pulling people together to work on something due to family and work committments but I’m determined to make it happen this time around and have put a 28 week plan in place to do just that. I’ve spent a lot of time in the ensuing years working as a digital marketer but alongside that I also set up a small record label and publishing company. I joined AIM and BPI where I’ve learned a lot about applying digital marketing techniques to music releases in order to reach out to a wider audience, so armed with all of this knowledge and renewed enthusiasm, I’m setting out to make this dream a reality.
It’s a little out of my comfort zone but as a favour to all of my many music friends, I’m going to document every step of this journey so that it’s possible to see the timeline of this project, the budget used, the files needed for a release and the steps that have to be taken at each stage of the plan.
I’m looking forward to you all joining me on this journey and to seeing where it takes us.
